CALGARY, February 18, 2015 – Members of the media are invited to attend an event on February 19 that will help launch Talk Energy Week, taking place from February 21 to 28. Talk Energy Week, part of the Let’s Talk Energy initiative of the Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation (CSTMC), is a national program that aims to enhance energy awareness and literacy among Canadians and help build a sustainable energy future.

Special guests – Olympian Seyi Smith and Paralympian Jaye Milley – will be on hand for the event, which also includes a panel discussion, and take the Talk Energy Week Power Bike challenge. The challenge is designed to demonstrate how much physical effort is required to produce the energy output required by everyday appliances in order to get people thinking more about our energy uses and needs. They will be joined by more than 100 Calgary high school students.

Following the official launch, media can join students attending the Calgary leg of the Talk Energy Week Speaker Series, which will include speakers Chris Henderson, author of Aboriginal Power; Anamika Mukherjee, Specialist, Air Strategy & Policy, Cenovus; Kali Taylor, Executive Director, Student Energy, Colleen Houston, Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers; and Michael Chae, Program Manager of the Biorefining Conversions and Fermentation Laboratory at the University of Alberta.
